As a food coach at Natural Care Clinic I get asked a lot of questions, some are the same questions so my answers flow, even become rehearsed, others I have have to ask/research (especially all you mamas who are looking for egg-free options).
Two weeks ago while on a food coaching phone call, a mom of a little fella on the spectrum asked me “What are the top 5 grocery items in your pantry you couldn’t live without?” I stumbled for a moment – I’d never been asked that before. I think I ended up giving the mama far more than 5 items but it did get me to thinking – there are items in my pantry that help me “whip up” recipes to keep my kids happy and their bellies filled. These are items that I always put in my cart at the grocery store because I’m fearful that I will run out. After a year and bit of eating grain-free, dairy-free I’ve learned that the secret is to be prepared and organized.
So here’s my list…
- Almond flour
- Coconut flour
- Medjool dates
- Honey
- Coconut oil
Here’s Lizanne‘s (the other food coach at NCC) list
- Nut or Seed Butter
- Coconut Oil
- Almond Flour
- Honey
- Canned coconut milk
If being prepare is half the battle.. then double check your pantry before you hit the grocery store to get stocked up for success!
Happy eating an alternative diet!
