Dr. Carissa’s Health Tips: Detox for life

January 17, 2012 by Natural Care Clinic Leave a Comment

The link between environmental pollutants and disease is no longer hypothetical.

There are over 80,000 industrial chemicals in use in North America and it is no longer a question of if these chemicals are in our bodies but rather are they causing illnesses or obstacles to recovery.

The majority of these chemicals are not in a factory or even outside…they are inside our homes, in our house hold products.

You can make a huge impact on your health by decreasing the toxic load in your body.

Knowing Southern Ontario has been named North America’s 3rd most polluted area; she encourages her patients to detox 1 to 4 times a year.

Effective detoxification methods can include an elimination diet, herbs, homeopathics, physical supports and a number of more options depending on your level of commitment and your health.

An elimination diet would mean clean and healthy eating and elimination of dairy, gluten, soy, egg, peanuts, shellfish and corn. Food should be free of chemical preservatives and additives and processed or cane sugar.

Castor oil packs are recommended over the liver 3-7 times a week. They should last for 20-60 minutes.

2 tablespoons of ground flax seed is an insoluble fiber that binds toxic load in the digestive system.

Acidophilus or probiotics help regulate the digestive system and allow the most aggressive elimination system work at maximum capacity. The acidophilus should be derived from human strains.

And lastly, herbs are a wonderful way to push toxins out of the body. Chorella is a great blood and lymphatic cleanser and is safe to take for those on medication. Red clover and Chelidonium are great blood and liver cleaning herbs. Raw garlic is anti-fungal and anti-bacterial and will kill most microbes that can over grow in a body when given the opportunity.

A detoxification program should last 2-4 weeks and should be as strict as possible. Most people have more energy, achieve a more appropriate weight and
feel overall healthier.

Good luck!
